"Meet Me In The Hallway" is a song performed by Harry Styles. It serves as the first track from Harry Styles.

Background[]

Meet Me In The Hallway first appeared as the first track on Harry's debut album, Harry Styles. He performed the song throughout Live On Tour. The live version of the song has an intro but the extended version was only performed in The Troubadour and the Garage. In 2018, Styles performed the song with another extended version which has an outro.

Critical reception[]

Variety writer Eve Barlow stated:

"Styles verbally counts into his opening track to add a sense of unveiling; a sense that he’s come prepared; a sense that this is no longer a rehearsal. When Styles was younger, he told Rolling Stone, he was exposed to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon.” This track does possess some Floydian tendencies with a psychedelic acoustic guitar strum that recalls the likes of “San Tropez” on “Meddle.” In fact, Styles’ album artwork wouldn’t look out of place on a shelf next to some Floyd vinyl. You imagine it’s been crafted to look, feel and sound like an instant British rock classic, preened to slide alongside your prized records library." [1]

HB In Retrospect opined:

"In this track, Harry creates a dreamy, calming yet sad atmosphere through guitar strums and synthy plucks. He explores a crumbling relationship through the lenses of addiction and recovery. To me, he uses the hallway as a metaphor for recovery, like he’s asking the other person in the relationship to join him on his journey to get better. His voice works really well with the guitar, and emphasizes the emotion he’s feeling. (7.5/10)"[2]

Lyrics[]

Meet me in the hallway
Meet me in the hallway
I just left the bedroom
Give me some morphine
Is there any more to do?

Just let me know I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
I gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

I walked the streets all day
Running with the fears
Cause you left me in the hallway
(Give me some more)
Just take the pain away

Just let me know I'll be at the door, at the door
Hoping you'll come around
Just let me know I'll be on the floor, on the floor
Maybe we'll work it out
Gotta get better, gotta get better
Gotta get better, gotta get better
Gotta get better, gotta get better
And maybe we'll work it out

We don't talk about it
It's something we don't do
Cause once you go without it
Nothing else will do
